Greening coastal infrastructure through eco-engineering – new CIRIA guidance
This event launched CIRIA’s new guidance Greening coastal infrastructure through eco-engineering (C820) to explore the use of eco-engineering within coastal asset management.
Eco-engineering is the process of ‘greening the grey’ by adapting the design of grey infrastructure such as flood and coastal protection assets to incorporate innovative features that would create sustainability benefits to surrounding ecosystems and the assets themselves.
This event will explore how coastal eco-engineering can benefit the construction industry and bring together experts in asset management, biodiversity and geomorphology to help achieve targets outlined in UK government environmental strategies leading to a more sustainable future.
Attendees heard from the lead authors of CIRIA’s new guidance
Greening coastal infrastructure through eco-engineering (C820) which has been endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
Attendees learned about coastal eco-engineering techniques, design, asset management, environmental and natural processes, the business case, and a practical case study(s). Those attending in person had a guided visit to some eco-engineering sites delivered as part of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme.
